Competition in the classroom: "There's only competitor out there, yourself."

I try to ensure my classroom is set up for collaboration, not competition. Most competitions in a class are never fair and stifle collaboration. Moreover, stressing personal best and not THE best is what matters.

I recently discovered these Sportchek commercials that note we should compete against ourselves. Please enjoy.

  2. Thank you for sharing these commercials. I just discussed with my principal today that we should be comparing data of where an individual student started and where they are now. That's the most important data - individual progress.

I'll be using these commercials for my media literacy discussions with my students for sure!

@kkemp70 Glad you liked the commercials. Would be interested in knowing how it goes in media literacy.

  4. I agree! On our vocabulary project I give out certificates when you have tripled the number of words YOU know, not in realtion to other pupils. As my high-school deaf and hard of hearing students vary widely in ability, they repsond very well to this!
